In Loving Memory
Jerry Bartlein of Tampa Fl, formerly of Savannah, Ga and Lawrence, NY beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, suddenly passed away.
A proud Marine, Jerry carried the values of the Marine Corps with him throughout his life—faithfulness, loyalty, honor, and devotion to those he loved. He was also an accomplished athlete from an early age. A high school track star, he specialized in the 880 yard run and set a State record in the relay event. His love of running continued well into adulthood, including completing two Marine Corps Marathons.
In his younger years, he was a lifeguard and enjoyed swimming, fishing and spending time at the beach.
His professional career was equally distinguished. At just 18 years old, he began his career in the financial services industry at Standard & Poor’s, beginning what would become an illustrious career spanning decades. Throughout his career, he worked for several respected companies, including Interactive Data, Dun & Bradstreet, Telekurs, Telesphere, Bridge and Primark. Later in his career, he shared his extensive knowledge and experience as a consultant with the Canadian-based firm FRI. His dedication, intelligence, and expertise earned him the respect of colleagues throughout the financial services industry.
After moving to Savannah, he was involved in Savannah’s St. Patrick’s Day committee and was a Fourth Degree member with the Knights of Columbus.
His greatest joy, however, was his family. He shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with his high school sweetheart, Maureen (nee Hickey). Their love story began when they were just 16 years old, when they met at a St. Camillus dance in Rockaway Beach.
He was predeceased by his parents, Veronica and Thomas.
He is survived by his loving wife Maureen; his children, Kathleen Zych (Paul) and Daniel Bartlein (Suzee); his grandchildren, Ryan and Molly Zych and Sadie, Bowden and Noah.
He also had a huge extended family of brothers and sisters in law that he loved like true brothers and sisters. Michael Hickey, Daniel Hickey (deceased) Robert Hickey (Raquel), Stephen Hickey (deceased) Christine Scarola, John Hickey (Nora), and Helene Tuohy (Richard), along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
His legacy will live on in the family he loved so deeply, the friendships he treasured, and the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

All I can picture is Jerry in his orange bathing suit on beach 106th. Little Daniel and Kay Kay as she was referred to when young. Si sorry to you Maureen and kids.

My uncle Jerry was such an inspiration. From the day I arrived from Colombia, he would makes me smile and felt welcomed into my adopted family. When I ran track, he would encourage me and was so happy to see me excel. When I was discovering my career path, he encouraged me and believed in me. When I went through a tough divorce and restarted my life, he encouraged me and saw more in me. The last time I saw him, he talked about how proud he was of me. Uncle Jerry was always there to encourage me and I’m so thankful to have had him in my life.
