Kathleen McCarthy McIlwain, age 68, passed away on December 7, 2025, in Tampa, Florida.
Kathleen was born on July 8, 1957, in Mineola, New York, to the late Mary McCarthy Kruse and the late Richard Andrew McCarthy.
She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Kathleen was a hard worker throughout her life and was known for having the biggest heart and for giving her all to anyone who came into her life. Her generosity, warmth, and compassion touched countless people, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
Kathleen loved music, dancing, elephants, and making memories with her family—especially trips to Busch Gardens, which brought her great joy. She was strong in her faith and deeply loved Jesus, finding comfort and strength in her relationship with Him.
Kathleen is survived by her daughter Misty Ann Scott, and her son Justin McIlwain and his wife Victoria McIlwain.
She was a devoted grandmother to Chyanne Coots, whom she helped lovingly raise, and Chyanne’s husband Tommy Parrish. She is also survived by her grandchildren Isaac (19), Hailey (18), Taylor (16), Emma (13), and Tucker (3), and her great-granddaughter Reign (3).
Kathleen was one of seven children and is survived by five siblings and their spouses: Joan Fairbanks; Maureen McCarthy Eldredge (husband Tim Eldredge); Karen McCarthy Hawn (husband Michael Hawn); Richard McCarthy; and TC McCarthy. She was preceded in death by her brother Kevin Aloysius McCarthy. She is also lovingly remembered by her 14 nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Kathleen’s life and the love she shared with so many:
Saturday, December 27 at 1:00 PM King of Peace MCC 6085 Park Blvd Pinellas Park, FL 33781 Food and drinks will follow in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA or Wounded Warriors, in memory of Kathleen.
Kathleen will be remembered for her loving heart, unwavering faith, and the light she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
