John Lloyd Tenney died on October 22, 2025.  A resident of Wesley Chapel, Florida, he was 77 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Blake) Tenney of Wesley Chapel, and 3 sons: Gordon Tenney (Jennifer) of Baton Rouge, LA, Anthony Tenney (Stacy) of Orlando, FL, and Randall Tenney of Mechanicsburg, PA.  At the time of his passing, John had 4 grandchildren, Baylor, Alix, Madigan and Antonia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was a devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather.

Born on August 6, 1948 in Franklinton, LA, he was preceded in death by his mother, Mollie (Borsky) Tenney, father, Charles Tenney, and half-siblings, Charles ‘Chuck’ Tenney, Mollie Mullen, and Lyle Tenney. His passionate, lifelong fandom of the LSU Tigers was proudly displayed by this “Ragin’ Cajun” wherever he went along with his love of the Bayou and hot sauce.

An avid golfer, John was known to be on the course 7 days a week, rain or shine, and in some cases, snow. He was also an insatiable reader, and one of the few to have finished Kindle Unlimited. He graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity (ΔΣφ), and later earned his Master’s degree from Saint Francis College in Pennsylvania. John’s civil service for the U.S. Navy spanned his entire career and culminated in the Deputy Director at the Naval Inventory Control Point in Mechanicsburg, PA before a well-earned retirement to the golf course. He also enjoyed his time as a Past Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks (West Shore Elks #2257), was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus and achieved the Fourth Degree, the Order’s highest level of patriotism, and also served as a board member of Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club.

A Memorial Service (sporting golf attire) will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, November 1st, at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Tampa, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to go hit a bucket of balls at a driving range.

  1. “Lord, I won’t ask You why. I can see why You would want such a sweet person in Heaven. They were Your child before they were mine. So, while I’m down here on Earth without them, please give me peace—peace that no human can give. Supply my soul with a never-ending conversation with You. I need to know You are close enough to touch at all times. You are the only way I will make it. The promise of Heaven is what will get me through, so send me hourly reminders that You’re here and that You’re not leaving. I need You to keep my weak spirit moving and my broken heart beating. I ask these things in Your name. Amen.”

  2. RIP my friend. Our friendship started over the Covert 19 shutdown with the nightly Union Meetings in my driveway. Soar with the Angels and protect your family.. Till we meet again and maybe you can teach me how to play golf..
