Irma Jean Denton, affectionately known as Gigi, passed away on July 6, 2024, at bay front hospital trauma unit room 564 in Saint Petersburg, FL, at the age of 88. Born on February 17, 1936, in Dayton, Kentucky, she was a beacon of strength, independence, and joy throughout her life.
Jean spent over 30 years as a cherished hairdresser, operating her own basement beauty shop in Louisville, Kentucky, where she served not just clients, but friends and family. Her career was marked by personal touch and warmth, making every client feel at home.
Her life was filled with the love of storytelling, often sharing tales of her childhood with her mother and father. Jean’s kitchen was a hub of delicious smells and warmth; she was renowned for her grilled cheese sandwiches and chilli and loved her a good coffee. Her laughter and resilient spirit were infectious, making her the superhero of her family. Jean took immense pride in raising her granddaughter, Victoria Denton, and cherished her role as a great-grandmother to Emiliee, Heavenlei, and Sly .
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Grace Burchett and Cruso Francis; her husband, Russell Denton; and her beloved dog, Chichi. She is survived by her brother, John Francis; her son, Russell Denton Jr.; her granddaughter, Victoria Denton-Fox; and her three great-grandchildren and don’t forget the favorite of them all her little dog name Lady.
A viewing will be held before her cremation on Saturday, July 13th at 10:30 am at Tampa Cremation & Burial Services in Tampa, Florida.
